A Chuppah (wedding canopy) is a fun request as I really like playing with large pieces of fabric. My friends Jake and Brenda asked me to make their chuppah, which got me back in the studio (my happy place) for a short spell in 2014.
In my intention to make it holy, I used a traditional hebrew lettering in the corner BS”D. It stands for an Aramaic phrase: Besiyata Dishmaya meaning “with the help of Heaven”. In some Jewish communities, it is customary to write this on every document as a reminder that all comes from God, including the following content that is to be written. To contextualize what’s really important in the text, that without God’s help we can do nothing successfully.
